Day 12- Stepping into the ways of a patient heart
How important is having patience to you? How often do you lose your patience? Is this an area in your life that needs work? As for me in my life, I lose my patience a lot. It is not something I am proud of, but it is something that I do recognize every time it happens. As of lately I have been praying for God to take over that area of my heart more than ever. I don’t think we realize how virtuous of a quality patience really is. I do believe it is a choice however and not something we are born with. I think we develop the skills throughout life to teach ourselves how to endure more in stressful situations before we become aggravated beyond return. Whether on the road, at home, or at work our level of patience is constantly being tested. It is so hard for us to understand that if we only saw the good in situations and let the bad and irritating parts of them roll off our backs that we would be much more pleasant all of the time. Instead we more than likely let the affair get the best of us and become hot headed. Then we have borrowed much more trouble than was even headed our way in the first place. Chances are the usually minuscule situation can be overcome with the simplest saying of all time “always think before you speak” or act in this case. Ask yourself is this worth getting upset over? Usually it’s not. As Christian women we always need to be asking ourselves that question. It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and angry woman. (Proverbs 21:19) I think patience lies within our heart. Our willingness to bear situations and maintain our composure comes with wisdom and strength from the word of God. The solution is simple, the more we read His word and spend alone time with Him the more He teaches us about all of the cherished life lessons we crave. He desires to be in our hearts and wants to bear His gifts to us so that we can bear them to others.
In your patience you will gain your souls. –Luke 21:19
Lord, Today show us how to be more Christ like in our patience. Help us learn that it comes from within our hearts and we have to go through You to achieve it. Show us that we always need to think before we get irritated at others and that being impatient is a loathsome quality to posses. Bring us closer to You through Your word and teach us how to be more like You in every way.
