Day 17-Giving ourselves with service

As Christians we are now in a position where we need to be giving back to God and to others by our service. There are many ways to serve the Lord. One way that we can all give back is by serving God through our family. We can teach, grow, learn, pray, fellowship, and worship all within the walls of our own home. When we selflessly give ourselves with love to help our family grow with Christ we are serving the Lord and He is delighted. We were created for serving God. This life is really not about us. Surprise. It is about serving the Lord and helping others. We can also serve God by being a member of a church and tithing. I know everyone gets a little uneasy about money, but this is yet another simple way to serve our Lord. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you. (Deuteronomy 16:17) This not only means tithing, but being open hearted to others that are less fortunate than you. We can serve by donating our time helping at homeless shelters or by volunteering for the nursery at church. If you can sing, share your gift and sing for others while praising God. You may be an artist who paints beautiful pictures all for the glory of God. Service is part of being a Christian and we are not fully developed in our growth until we are giving back to others.

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. –Luke 6:27-31

Lord, Help us to always put others before ourselves. Let us come to serve you with a clean and pure heart. Help us to understand that this life is not about us. Teach us with Your words how we can be the best asset on the team of Christ. Show us how we can best serve you.
